Maria Grazia Chiuri presented Dior’s African-inspired resort 2020 collection in Marrakech at El Badi Palace on April 29, 2019 and despite or perhaps because of the exotic location, celebrities and fashion influencers flocked to the city in Morocco to attend the show, many wearing the French fashion house’s designs to sit front and centre during the presentation.
Beauty entrepreneur and actress Jessica Alba dazzled in the front row in a floor-length sheer Dior gown as did Oscar-winning Black Panther actress Lupita Nyong’o — whose black sheer skirted look was paired with an edgy wide Dior belt and black cap-sleeve top.
In true rock ‘n’ roll style legendary American singer Diana Ross donned a black tulle gown with Mary Jane flats and oversized sunglasses. The singer later reportedly took to the afterparty stage where she performed a set that had showgoers dancing the night away.
Big Little Lies star Shailene Woodley was also in attendance, pulling out all the stops in a dreamy maxi Dior dress.
Model and tech entrepreneur Karlie Kloss — who has a close relationship with the fashion label and wore a spectacular custom Dior gown for her 2018 nuptials to Joshua Kushner — sat front row at the presentation in a plunging floor-length black dress.
Man Repeller’s Leandra Medine, influencer Camila Coelho and Australian fashion influencer Nicole Warne were among the guests at the show who brought their unique point of view to their Dior outfits.
The show was, by all accounts from those who attended, as striking as the guest list was star-filled. Dior’s creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, called heavily on African influences for the resort collection with Suzy Menkes noting that “Batik was the star of the collection, offering historic patterns made modern.”
